Wow. One of the ads for this Brazilian yogurt campaign has just come to my attention. Granted, it’s about eight months after the fact, but this isn’t exactly a breaking news source.
If you are anything like me, you looked at that photo and thought to yourself: “wow, she looks fantastic.” I can think of a few men and women who would react the same way.
If you are anything like the ad-execs who created this, you would have thought: “Eww, she’s a pig. I can’t even see her pelvic bones or rib cage!”
Basically, if you are this woman’s size or larger, they want you to believe that you are repulsive and undesirable, so don’t bother trying to look sexy or even attractive. Not only that, but it implies that men are the reason behind every decision a woman makes. I beg to differ on both counts.
The text of the ad reads: “Forget about it. Men’s preference will never change. Fit Light Yogurt.”
I think that this woman looks voluptuous and stunning. Thoughts?

Hey, she looks like me! Or I look like her…well doesn’ really matter, does it? She is stunning and voluptuous. I totally agree with you. The only person behind a woman whenever she has a decision to make is herself. As long as she is confident with herself; her looks, personality and whatnots, she shouldn’t care what other people think. I don’t. And it makes me happier being me. As James Leo Herlihy said, “Be yourself. No one can ever tell you you’re doing it wrong.” (For more quotble quotes, visit http://wizdompath.wordpress.com)

Hi Dilla-
Yes, she is beautiful. It’s a shame that women are not encouraged to feel attractive or desirable unless they fit a certain mold, isn’t it?

She is absolutely gorgeous. And, the ad copy is wrong, anyway.
Back in–oh, let’s see, pretty much era other than right now, the model, gorgeous, everyone drooling over her woman WAS curvy.
The ironic thing here is, while the ad is showcasing her as unattractive, the ad execs still manage to set her up so that no ordinary woman can achieve these impossible, ideal standards.
Her skin has been photoshopped to look flawless, no stretch marks, no pimples, no moles, no hair, no spots where hair used to be that now look red… you get the idea.
Yes, she’s gorgeous, but NOBODY looks like that, either. People may be the same size as she is, but that’s it.

Dawn, that’s a really good point. Even though she is curvy, she is flawless. I guess after the past few years being inundated with women as thin as Angelina Jolie and Mischa Barton, it’s refreshing to see someone like this model in print, even if the message is a negative one – (I think many people would disagree.)

The ad copy is rather demeaning to men too.
